Russian 2013 E-commerce statistics is published
East-West Digital News in partnership with Digital October published detailed statistics on Russian E-commerce in 2013.
According to research, 23% of russian population shop on-line. Overall volume of Russian E-Commerce including digital goods and on-line services is 16.bn USD, volume of sales physical goods reached 11.bn USD while cross-border purchases were 3bn USD.
Online retail accounted for about 2% of total Russian retail market. Growing rate showed significant rise of 30%.
Research counted 39,000 Internet shops in Russia in 2013, up from 32,500 in 2012. Approximately 30 shops made $100m or more in sales.
Internet covers 57% of households in Russia. According to the Sociology Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russia’s Internet penetration rate could reach 75% by 2020 and 90% around 2030.
Among negative factors the most are – slow delivery and bad customer service. The predominant payment method is cash, followed by cash kiosk and banking cards.
